Sweating is a completely natural reaction of the body to eliminate waste and cool the body in heat. Many Dutch people, however, suffer from excessive sweating, for example when it comes to their hands and feet.

- Usually there is no cause for excessive sweating. Heredity can play a role in excessive sweating, but there is no real explanation.
When there is a medical cause for excessive sweating, this often has to do with:
- Side effects of certain medications (such as SSRIs, TCAs, opiates, cholinesterase inhibitors, levopoda and anti-estrogens such as tamoxifen).
- Drugs or alcohol, or symptoms in miners or stop them.
- Hormonal changes, such as in pregnancy or transition.
- An anxiety disorder.
- A metabolic disorder (diabetes mellitus, gout or a thyroid gland that is too fast).
- A neurological disease (eg Parkinson’s disease).
- An infection (eg HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, endocarditis).
- A cardiovascular disease or severe lung disease.
- (Rarely) cancer.
A lot of sweat on hands and feet can have various causes. Not only can stress or nutrition be of influence, genetic predisposition can also play a role. With all the negative consequences. This makes many people very insecure because they suffer from excessive sweating of hands and feet.
Counteract excessive sweating feet and hands
Fortunately, there is something to do with sweaty hands and feet. The treatment against excessive sweating with botox for example. When palms and soles are treated with botox to prevent excessive sweating, sweating can be stopped for 99.9%. Not only can the botox on feet and hands be applied, the botox treatment works in different places on the body where you can sweat excessively.
Botox treatment feet and hands
During the botox treatment against excessive sweating, you will get small injections at the locations where you want the sweating to stop. Clinic Doctor Frodo prefers not to perform botox treatments for sweaty hands and feet. The reason for this is that the hands and feet are very sensitive and also very difficult to stun. The choice remains of course yours, but you must realize that this is a painful treatment
Symptoms of excessive Clammy Hands are different for each person. The most common symptoms are:
- Continuous production of sweat, even with little or no effort and a low body temperature
- Continuously moist hands, armpits and / or back; sometimes clean clothes several times a day
- Sweat attacks
- Unpleasant smell
- Moist feet that easily cause fungal infections on the feet
- Irritated skin (eg in the groins)
- Psychological burden of sweating, uncertainty
Various treatments for excessive sweating are offered within the hospital. The doctor determines together with you which treatment is appropriate.
MiraDry is a treatment for armpits based on heat. It is the only treatment for excessive sweating with a permanent result. After both underarms are anesthetized, the sweat glands in the armpits are removed by heating. The entire armpit is treated piece by piece with a miraDry hand piece. This way all sweat glands are treated. One to two treatments are required to achieve the best possible result. Immediately after the treatment, a reduction in sweat is noticeable. Eventually the procedure can lead to 82% sweat reduction (once or twice), which is permanent.
Botulinum toxin treatment of armpits
Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks the path between the nerves and the sweat glands and stops sweating and sometimes the unpleasant odor. Botulinum toxin is injected into the skin of the armpits in a diluted solution with small injections. After an average of three to six months the treatment has been worked out and has to be repeated.
Iontophoresis is a technique where electrical current is administered to the skin. The treatment is performed in the form of hand and foot baths or (for the treatment of armpits, the face or the neck / back) in the form of sponge applicators. During treatment, a weak DC or alternating current flows through the hand or foot baths or the sponge applicators. The flow through the skin reduces the sweat glands. Iontophoresis is not curative and therefore must be continued permanently. However, this treatment is not offered in Máxima Medical Center.
There are medications that are used for excessive sweating. These are often medications that are meant for another disease, but have as a side effect that they prevent sweating. These medications are mainly prescribed if there is sweating all over the body, without underlying cause. The doctor determines during a conversation which medication is suitable for you.
